The Main Players

Tronte, a city home to heroes, would-be heroes, and those looking to make a pretty coin out of both. Four such colourful individuals can be found below, they are Holtar—a former adventurer turned necromantic detective, Seymour—a former thief turned wise-cracking skull, Miss McGreggar—a former Sorcerer turned piesmith, and Captain Moorland—a wannabe hero turned city guard...

Holtar.jpg

Holtar, Necromancer

A dark elf necromancer who's more comfortable around the dead than the living—mainly because they don't come with emotional baggage. A former adventurer who was chased out of Rotford by locals displeased that their relatives were being used to make the dark elf endless cups of untouched sigh tea. Currently Tronte's only consulting necromancer, which makes him either indispensable or the prime suspect in every mysterious death. Carries the weight of the world in his pocket—including his best friend, Seymour, a wise-cracking disembodied skull.

Seymour.jpg

Seymour, Skull &  Former Thief

A disembodied skull with the eating habits of a starving barbarian and the survival instincts of a cliff-addicted lemming. Claims to be a 'thief extraordinaire' despite lacking hands, feet, or any traditional thieving equipment. Has an uncanny ability to appear wherever food is present and disappear whenever actual work needs doing. Death has done nothing to improve his table manners or his tendency to state the blindingly obvious. Harbours a deep-rooted hatred for The Heroes Guild, whom he blames for the death of his sister.

Mrs M.jpg

Miss McGreggar

A wood elf sorceress who traded fireballs for flour and now runs Tronte's finest pie shop—which is now linked to several mysterious deaths across the city. Her secret ingredient isn't love, it's actual magic, making her pastries dangerously addictive and her business surprisingly profitable. Unfortunately, her pies have become responsible for a spate of unexplained deaths, threatening to ruin both her reputation and the shop's rating in Pies & Pastries Monthly.

Captain M.jpg

Captain Morland

A city guard captain with delusions of heroic grandeur and a moustache groomed to perfection. Keeps a memento rejection tin on his desk from The Heroes Guild as either motivation or self-torture—the jury's still out. Spends his days trying to prevent Tronte from descending into complete anarchy whilst dealing with necromancers, talking skulls, and citizens who treat every minor inconvenience like the end of the world. Smokes something that could probably be classified as a war crime. Hates using Holtar to solve the recent spate of unexplained murders, but realises that raising a corpse to ask 'who did it' is a lot quicker than actual detective work.

Silence of the Dead is ultimately a great deal of fun. It dances between darkness and silliness in good measure, Holtar and Seymour bouncing off each other throughout. It's a little like The Thursday Murder Club and Randall & Hopkirk: Deceased get a fantasy write-up.
